Job Title – Operational Support Engineer/Microsoft Systems Administrator



Job Description:


Candidate will be a member of the Production IT Operations Team supporting a large mission critical 24x7 production data center environment. Team handles all system builds, infrastructure engineering and deployments, research and implementation of new technologies, and support of the production environment. A high degree of collaboration within the existing team, and external teams including developers, DBAs, Product Management and other business teams is required to provide the right level of service within a defined delivery process.



The ideal candidate will have a high degree of aptitude, enjoy working on a small yet highly talented team of technology professionals, and a passion for technologies related to supporting a fast-paced and growing Internet Service.



This is NOT an IT role; this is a Production Operations role. You MUST have previous experience supporting large Internet services in a hosted data-center/co-location environment to be considered for this job.



Job Requirements:


- Must reside in Canada, and be located close to a major Canadian city/airport – preferably Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver


- Must have prior experience supporting a 24x7 Production environment hosted in a 3rd party data-center; preferably an online consumer Internet service


- 3-5 years of professional experience in an IT Support/Administration role


- Basic understanding of IP networking technologies including mail/SMTP, DNS, routing/subnets, and IP troubleshooting tools (ping, traceroute, etc..)


- Must have flexible hours to work with teams around the globe


- Be willing and excited to participate on a team of highly motivated technology professionals



Job Responsibilities:


- Rotating on-call support for the 24x7 production environment. Duties include monitoring and responding to alerts, troubleshooting issues and incidents, working with the development team for deployments, and basic operational tasks.


- Create, implement and maintain tools required for effective monitoring and support of production environment. These include alerting and monitoring tools such as HP SIM, Microsoft MOM, NAGIOS, Cacti, etc…


- Create and maintain documentation to support the production environment – rack diagrams, cabling diagrams, IP address allocation, support/vendor documentation, etc..


- Installing, maintaining and supporting a large environment of Windows 2003 servers running Microsoft technologies including IIS, MS-SQL 2005, WSUS, Sharepoint and Active Directory


- Interface with data-center vendors for installations, troubleshooting, and general remote hands-on support of the environment



Preference given to candidates with the following proficiencies:


- Experience with SAN/Storage technologies – Fiber-Channel, LUN allocation, Zoning, HP EVA Storage Systems, ZFS-based NAS Storage Systems


- Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2007 (MOSS) and Windows SharePoint Services (WSS 3.0)


- Microsoft SQL 2005 Server technologies, including cluster setup, implementation and support


- Experience deploying and supporting VMware VS4 clusters


- Experience with HP Blade Server technologies


- Recent Microsoft certifications in the above technologies
